It is important to me that I offer the very best care to clients. That means I need to remain updated with all relevant global studies and information within the industry.
The best way someone can do that is with training and education; thanks to modern technology, it can be accomplished much more efficiently.
Australian Institute of Professional Counsellors
My priority with my various studies is the Diploma of Counselling with AIPC. My advanced majors include child development and effective parenting, counselling clients with addictions, family therapy, abuse counselling and working with children and adolescents. AIPC is a great place to enjoy a comprehensive online experience, and I recommend it to anyone who needs to study in their own space and at their own pace. I intend to follow on and complete a Bachelor of Counselling. Visit the AIPC website for more details on the courses they offer.
Another of my fundamental study resources for mental health matters is the Mental Health Academy. With a vast and comprehensive selection of informative and career-building courses for its members, the credential courses are open for members and non-members to enrol. I highly recommend the monthly membership courses for all health professionals across the industry - it also helps to keep track of valuable & necessary CPD. I have completed over 300 hours of study time with the Academy, a steadfast staple in my recovery routine and ongoing professional development.
Within my LGA and those surrounding it, we have experienced two catastrophic natural disasters in 5 years. Devastating bushfires ravaged most of the landscape for the best part of a year during 2019 and early 2020, only to end the drought in 2021 and ride on into 2022 with the worst recorded flooding the eastern seaboard of Australia has ever seen. With trauma-informed care now being needed more than ever, completing the Disaster Mental Health Counseling credential course has been necessary to ensure I serve my community as best as possible for the decade or two of recovery we are now facing.
Given our global troubles, the Working with Trauma credential course is highly recommended for all mental health professionals.
Working with Behavioural Addictions is a modern and fundamentally important course that tackles the need for psychoeducation and compassion for individuals while advocating for social reform and community involvement in changing how we treat those suffering from addiction.
Science & Practice of Wellbeing Credential course. This course was one I sunk my mind into & was a wealth of resources and information, teaching me the history and current-day evidence of why positive psychology is used in modern-day mental health treatments. I have applied much of what I learned with this course to my everyday recovery plan, adding another safety net of well-being knowledge to my sobriety toolbox.
Evidence-Based Parenting: Raising Children to Thrive with Dr Justin Coulson is my favourite course I have undertaken to date. I highly recommend it to anyone for any parenting reasons. I wish our mental health industry to adopt this course across the board, making it accessible in all maternity wards nationwide and necessary mandated courses to be undertaken by those going through the family court systems.
The Applied Positive Psychology Course examined positive psychology's history and current-day application. This is another helpful course of vast, scientifically proven & evidence-based knowledge to add to my sobriety toolkit.
